Everything changes when you start to emit your own frequency rather than absorbing the frequencies around you, when you start imprinting your intent on the universe rather than receiving an imprint from existence. -Barbara Marciniak
Last summer, I started to envision this painting. I was inspired by many of the visionary artists I follow on Instagram, as well as many paintings I had found on Pinterest. It had been several years since I had attempted a figurative oil painting, and I honestly had packed up my oil paints in a box.
After a few months of experimenting with acrylics, creating many abstract and ethereal paintings...I really wanted to shift gears and take things up a notch.
I started the underpainting with Raw Umber, because that is recommended for portrait oil paintings to help keep the warmth in the skin tones. At this time, I did not know I would end up making the background of cool colors—mint, aqua, sea foam—looking back, perhaps I should have used some phathlo blue in the underpainting too. Ah well, its a learning process. Most of my oil painting knowledge is from my high school art teacher, books, and Google.
I was pleased with how the underpainting turned out...the hair took on a life of its own! As they say, life imitates art, and wild hair is definitely a constant in my life.
I started to block in the colors, and I fell in love with the cool background. At first I thought perhaps her robe would be like water or a river, and perhaps the background would be like grass or the Earth. Maybe that shows through already, or maybe not yet.
This week I was able to really flesh it out and start on the energy flowing from the chest. I hope to add even more next week. I love the quote above, as it is one of my favorite quotes. I stumbled upon it several years ago, and it has always stuck with me. I felt a distinct shift in my life when it became sort of a mantra for me. Life changes when your inner perception changes...and it changes even more when you start to project yourself into the world.
Have a nice weekend!
